Marie Smith Named House Mom Of the Year House director ("house Mom") Marie Smith was recently honored as the House Director of the Year at DePauw University's Order of Omega awards ceremony. Marie and her husband, Jim, were a dynamic duo "house Mom" and "house Dad" until his death three years ago.

Gamma Chapter has had a busy spring semester on DePauw’s campus. We kicked off our semester by hosting our philanthropy week, King of Hearts. We were excited to have both sororities and fraternities participate in our week of events, including a basketball tournament, blood drive and ending with a pageant.

A designer as well as a decorator have been consulted for ideas to update the formal and informal living areas.

"For Little 5, it's been tradition that the sophomores ride for Alpha Phi so that any woman in the chapter has a chance to participate during their time on campus. My Phi family had a long tradition of participating, so I jumped at the chance.

Graduation day is such a bittersweet moment in our lives, as we say goodbye to the youth and vitality of college life, and usher in a new era in our lives: full-blown adulthood. Kady writes, “I wanted to share how much my own experience at Alpha Phi has shaped my life. I knew I wanted to be in a sorority when I was really young. My father was a Beta at Hanover College and I grew up hearing Beta songs as lullabies. As I got older, my Dad would tell me stories from life in the fraternity and I was able to see how close he was to his Beta Brothers, even as an adult. I wanted those same experiences and I knew DePauw would offer that.

For Debbie Smith ‘79, Gamma exposed her to a community that she didn't necessarily have when she was young. "I am an only child, so living in the Gamma house gave me an opportunity to see what it was like to have lots of sisters. We celebrated each other, laughed and cried with each other, and made some lasting friendships and memories.”
